bird trips around Verona

Verona: Mount Baldo and marshes
Jun, 2004

I had a wonderful day in the Baldo Mountains - cool temperatures and great scenery.
Highlights were a cooperative Ring Ouzel that kept flying out from a rocky slope and foraging in the open below the slope. The Alpine Choughs were common and put on a good show. Enjoyed sorting out the Water Pipits, Tree Pipits, Skylarks, and Crested Larks. The first two were life birds for me. Heard many Chaffinches, Blackcaps, and Chiffchaffs.
Heard a lot of other bird species but my lack of experience prevented me from knowing what they were. I think birds in Europe are more secretive or inconspicuous in general than in the US.

Later in the afternoon went to one of the marshes south of Verona. Had great looks at a Reed Bunting, several wetland warblers, plenty of herons, and a Marsh Harrier.
