I have created a data base that allows you to record data for every bird you want: there are fields for order, family, size, habitat, where & when you can see that bird, photo & song.
You can record your sightings as well.
When I began building this database, my intention was to catalog the species you can find in Italy, so I called this software BirdItaly. However, nothing prevents you from using BirdItaly to catalog every bird you want, by expanding the database.
Main features
Intuitive interface.
You can build your own bird database.
You can use your personal check-list or adopt the whole Western Palearctic check-list with the latest taxonomic classifications.
You can file your sightings.
You can see and hear each bird by filing pictures and sounds.
In short: you can use BirdItaly not only to remember when and where you have seen a particular bird, but also as a guide to its identification.
Hardware & software requirements
BirdItaly was created with FileMaker Pro, so you need this application (available for MacOS and Windows) in the 5.x release or better.
There are no special hardware requirements, but it is better if you can set your monitor at least at thousands of colors. You must consider that, archiving images and sounds, the file can occupy several Mbs.
Registration and shareware fee
The demo version is limited to 20 records. Free filing is possible for registered users only.
Moreover, if you are a registered user you can receive by e-mail the check-list of all Western Palearctic, European, Italian species (scientific name, Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Turkish and Swedish name, order and family).
If you want to register your copy of BirdItaly contact me sending the shareware fee [10 Euro or US$ 10] to:
